Marcela Lorca is a director and choreographer renowned for her dynamic storytelling and visceral theatrical language. Her directing credits include Julius Caesar (GFA Old Globe), Anna in the Tropics (Asolo Repertory Theatre), December: A Love Years in the Making (Alley Theatre), Stir (Old Globe), Stones in His Pockets (Latte Da), Helen, Twelfth Night, Emilia, The Comedy of Errors, Thunder Knocking on the Door, Iphigenia at Aulis, The Winter’s Tale, and Into the Woods (Ten Thousand Things Theater). Additional credits include Caroline; Or Change (Guthrie Theater; Syracuse Stage), The Count of Monte Cristo (Oregon Shakespeare Festival), The Burial at Thebes, The Secret Fall of Constance Wilde and Crimes of the Heart (Guthrie Theater), Blood Wedding (Guthrie Theater; Kansas City Repertory Theatre), Disgraced (Guthrie Theater; McCarter Theatre Center; Milwaukee Repertory Theater), Scorched and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (Syracuse Stage), and The House of the Spirits (Mixed Blood Theatre).
As a choreographer and movement director, Lorca has contributed to more than 150 productions. She has directed over ten devised plays and participated in the development of new plays and musicals. She is also the co-founder of two actor training programs; the UMN/Guthrie BFA Actor Training Program and the Guthrie Experience for Actors in Training.
In recognition of her artistic leadership and impact on the field, she received the 2019 Zelda Fichandler Award.
Lorca previously served as Movement Director and Director of Company Development at the Guthrie Theater and was Artistic Director of Ten Thousand Things Theater from 2018 to 2024.
